The Sugar Maple pendant draws on the graceful beauty of maple foliage as autumn transforms the landscape. Its familiar lobed leaves move from green into warm shades of gold and copper, with each branch displaying its own mixture of seasonal color. The sugar maple’s ability to renew itself year after year has also given the tree enduring associations with resilience, transformation and lasting connection.

A slender brown oxidized bronze stem carries a cascading arrangement of textured maple leaves, creating a naturally elongated silhouette. Green hand patination, copper leaf and 24k gold plating bring varied autumn tones to the foliage while preserving the detail of the original leaf forms. The asymmetric composition gives this Sugar Maple pendant gentle movement and a little more visual presence, while remaining elegant and easy to wear.

Materials: The Sugar Maple pendant is cast in hand patinated bronze with a brown and green hand patinated finish, accented with a 24kt gold plating and copper leaf.

About our Jewelry

Our unique jewelry is made by creating molds directly from botanical elements in a process similar to lost-wax casting. While traditional lost-wax casting begins with a hand-carved model of wax, Michael Michaud uses an actual leaf, branch or flower in place of the wax model. A mold is created around the botanical element and as it is heated the plant matter burns away and leaves behind a beautifully detailed mold of itself.

Michael Michaud

Artist Michael Michaud attended the Rochester Institute of Technology's prestigious school for American craftsmen, where he studied under designers Hans Christenson and Gary Griffin and became a master in the creation and manipulation of molds. After graduating in 1980, Michael Michaud continued to perfect his craft while working under jewelry designers in the New York City area.

In 1991, he found himself working in New York City's flower district and living in the beautiful Connecticut countryside - his love of the natural beauty that surrounded him began to blend with his passion for creating jewellery which lead to the birth of Michael Michaud Jewelry.
