Part of the holly family, the winterberry is an iconic motif of the holiday season. While the common holly keeps its vibrant, green leaves throughout the winter season, the winterberry bush sheds its leaves during the fall, allowing its ruby-red berries to take the spotlight. In addition to livening up typically monochromatic winter landscapes, this shrub is a wonderful source of food for many birds and mammals.
